The NCS also seized 13 Tokunbo vehicles, smuggled bags of rice and sacks of second-hand bags with duty paid value (DPV) of N153 million at the Idiroko axis.

The state NCS Comptroller, Sani Madugu, disclosed this in Abeokuta while briefing journalists on the recent seizure of contraband by the command.

Madugu, who also raised the alarm over new methods of concealment by suspected smugglers, said the seized items included motorcycles, kegs of vegetable oil, cartons pasta and second-hand shoes, among others.

According to him, six used cars, 12 means of conveyance, 610 bags of foreign rice, 62 used tyres, 40 cartons of pasta and 15 kegs of foreign vegetable oil with DPV of N51,360,580 were seized in Abeokuta.

The comptroller restated the commitment of the command’s operatives to tackling smugglers and smuggling across the state.

According to him, the agency generates N300 million into government coffers as excise duty monthly from local factories operating in the state.

He said: “Despite the aforementioned events and given the difficult nature of the operational environment, we will continue to stand firm and resolute in discharging the statutory responsibilities bestowed upon us as a service with this dedication, selflessness and uncompromising commitment.”

Madugu appealed to traditional rulers and eminent personalities to assist the agency by exposing the grave dangers of smuggling, including health and economic hazards.
