JERUSALEM, ISRAEL - NOVEMBER 27: A man walks towards the Dome of the Rock at the Al-Aqsa mosque compound in the Old City on November 27, 2014 in Jerusalem, Israel. The Dome of the Rock is the fought over holy site between Jews and Muslims and is the prime attraction of the Haram es-Sharif (Noble Sanctuary) or Temple Mount, which is also sacred to Jews. Nine Israelis have been killed in a series of stabbings, shootings and hit-and-run attacks in Jerusalem over the past month, unsettling the ancient city of Jerusalem where Jews, Christians and Muslims have lived side by side for thousands of years. The tension and violence on the streets of the city is threatening to further isolate communities and to encourage extremist politicians to exploit the situation. Former Aviation Minister, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode has backed US President Donald Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

Israel and the Palestinian state have been enmeshed in decades-old tussle over the city reverred by Jews, Christians and Muslims alike.

But in a landmark declaration on Wednesday, President Trump recognised Jerusalem as the Israeli capital, adding that the US State Department would commence the process of relocation of the US Embassy in Israel to the city, a declaration that has threatened to plunge the Middle East into crisis.

However, in a tweet on his verified Twitter account Thursday afternoon, Fani-Kayode praised Trump’s boldness.

He said: “With the recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel,it is obvious why God annointed @realDonaldTrump and chose him to lead America. If u want to know who the 45th President of the US really is read Isaiah 45.He is the biblical Cyrus and he came to establish God’s counsel.”
