As the Federal Government battles to ensure that the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) calls off its more than one-week-old strike, other workers’ unions across the nation’s universities are set to declare indefinite strike by Wednesday, next week.
The unions, which include the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Non-Academic Staff Union and National Association of Academic Technologists, are under the umbrella of the Joint Action Committee of NAAT, NASU and SSANU.
The committee, which rose from its meeting in Abuja on Wednesday night had written the branches of the member-unions across the country seeking their mandate to declare the indefinite strike.
The letter, a copy of which New Telegraph sighted, and which was dated Wednesday, August 23, 2017, was signed by the unions’ President, Alhaji Sani Suleiman, Comrade Chris Ani and Comrade Samson Ugwoke for NAAT, NASU and SSANU respectively.
According to the letter, the committee listed about 12 grounds necessitating the declaration of the strike action, saying since January when it suspended its five-day warning strike following the Memorandum of Understanding signed with the Federal Government, none of the issues have received attention.
