Meningitis : Agency Vaccinates 1149 Bauchi Prison Inmates

The Bauchi State Primary Health Care Development Agency yesterday conducted a mass vaccination exercise against Cerebrum Spinal meningitis (CSM) for inmates in Bauchi Prison.

Speaking at the mass vaccination exercise, the Director Disease Control of the Agency, Dr.Fanti Ahmed, who represented the coordinator of the Agency said, they were in the prison to conduct the vaccination exercise in view of the outbreak of CSM in some Northern States and because some cases suspected to be CSM were also recorded in some parts of Bauchi State. He said the agency is being proactive in order to forestall an outbreak of the disease in the State. The Director Disease Control of the Agency assured of his agency’s continued medical support to the Nigerian Prisons Service in the State.

Receiving the delegation in Bauchi Prison, the Controller of Prisons Incharge of Medical Services of the command, Dr.L.N.Dombin who spoke on behalf of CP Hassan A.Shema, commended the State Primary Health Care Agency for the effort and quick response to the situation.

CP Dombin said although there’s no reported case of meningitis yet in the prison but the mass vaccination exercise against the disease is still timely. Prisons staff of the prison and those at the State command headquarters were equally vaccinated against the Disease.
