Hajj 2017: NAHCON approves 131 private operators, axes 45 others

The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has released a list of 131 successful Hajj licensed operators for 2017 hajj exercise.

This followed the pre qualifications exercise carried out by the commission from December 2016 for the 176 companies which applied for the 2017 Hajj license.

Spokesman of NAHCON Uba Mana said on Monday in a statement that the 45 operators disqualified after the screening have up to February 28 next week Tuesday to appeal their disqualification.

Chairman of NAHCON Abdullahi Mukhtar Muhammad had last week announced that the operators would have double allocation from 10000 to 20000 slots this year, following the upward review of the of Nigeria’s hajj quota by Saudi Arabia from 76000 to 95000.

He made the pledge during the opening of the National Training Workshop themed: “Hajj, Umrah and the Policy Challenges: The Way Forward” organised by the Association for Hajj and Umrah Operators of Nigeria (AHUON) whose National President Alhaji Abdulfattah Abdulmajeed, pledging a continuous improvement for the pilgrims.

The screening report seen by Daily Trust shows that while the 131 successful companies meet the NAHCON requirements and were cleared, the 45 unclear companies failed to meet or more stipulations.

The report shows that while some were not cleared for ‘non-submission of form and N5m’, others were for ‘non-submission of N5m’, with some due to ‘3rd license expires’, ‘2016 Hajj violation’, ‘only 1 or 2 Umrah’, non-compliance with NAHCON (guidelines) and invalid ‘International Air Transport Association (IATA)’.
