Amaete Ntuk, a former chairman of Ikot Abasi Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State, has been set free by his abductors, after two days in their captivity.
Mr. Ntuk, a businessman, was abducted on Saturday, alongside his wife, while they were on their way back from the Akwa Ibom International Airport, Uyo.
They had just returned to the state from Abuja when the incident happened.
Mr. Ntuk’s wife was also set free. They were was released in the early hours of Tuesday, and that he was currently being treated in a private hospital in Ikot Abasi for shocks and the wounds he sustained from machete cuts.
Mr. Ntuk’s abductors had demanded for ransom before his release. It is unclear if the family paid the ransom.
Local residents, who thronged the hospital when the news of Mr. Ntuk’s release broke out, were not allowed access to the facility, PREMIUM TIMES gathered.
