Protesting workers shut down NAFDAC Headquarters

Workers of the National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC), on Tuesday morning shut down the headquarters of the agency in Abuja and denied the acting director general, Yetunde Oni, access to her office.

The development was in continuation of a protest by the workers against the management of the agency, report Premium Times.

The workers had halted operations at the headquarters of the agency since last week when they began their protest.

Our reporter saw Mrs. Oni making a call on her phone in front of the gate on which the workers had hung a heavy padlock.

She declined to comment when asked the reason why the premises was shut down.

A few minutes later however, a team of armed policemen arrived at the scene, apparently in response to her call.

The officers later forced the lock open to allow Mrs. Oni into the premises.

The policemen cordoned off the area to deny the protesting workers access.

Later, another truck brought in heavily armed mobile police men as reinforcement.

Mrs. Oni and members of the NAFDFAC staff declined talking to the media as at the time of filing this report.
