Gov. Ganduje of Kano threatens to probe Kwankwaso

The Kano State Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, on Sunday in Kano threatened to probe the immediate past administration in the state led by Rabiu Kwankwaso.

The financial irregularities, he said, included illegal land deals, alleged fraud in education sector and road projects.

The decision was informed by a threat by the Kwankwasiyya Solidarity Forum to institute a legal action against Ganduje within 48 hours, if he (the governor) failed to stop wearing of red cap.

Reacting in a statement issued on behalf of Ganduje to the threat, the state Commissioner of Information, Mallam Mohammed Garba, described the Kwankwasiyya’s position as laughable.

Ganduje threatened that the state government would institute a Commission of Inquiry to probe Kwankwaso’s alleged lack of transparency in governance, particularly on alleged financial irregularities.

Citing the foreign scholarship scheme by the previous administration, Ganduje maintained that it was ill-planned, poorly-handled and full of financial irregularities.

He said, “This deliberate distortion of facts and spreading of falsehood is capable of provoking the government to drop its non-confrontational stance and institute a commission of inquiry to probe the previous administration particularly on illegal land deals, education and infrastructure.’’

The governor noted that the abandoned 5km road project initiated by the previous administration in all the 44 local governments areas of the state, had become a subject of investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
