Football Legend Edson Arantes do Nascimento, popularly known as Pele, will no longer be visiting the country as earlier scheduled, organisers of the event have announced.
This will be the second time Pele’s visit to Nigeria will be called off following an earlier cancellation in August.
The organisers said the visit was called off on health grounds.
Pele was scheduled to arrive in Lagos on Thursday on a three-day visit to the country for the YEDA Legend Edition 2016 organised by Winihin Jemide Services and the Youth Experience Day Africa.
“WJS would like to announce a change to the previously advertised Legend Event 2016 involving Edson Arantes do Nascimento, also known as Pele, as the star attraction. Regretfully, we have been informed that Pele will no longer be making an appearance as planned due to WJS’ inability to fulfil yet another two-three weeks postponement demanded by the Pele team,” a statement from the organisers read.
However, WJS stated that the Legend Edition event would proceed on all other fronts including the sports clinic with the children, which will still feature Peter Rufai, Victor Ikpeba, Taribo West and others.
