Suspected hate crime: Muslim woman in hijab set on fire

Police are investigating a possible hate crime after a Muslim woman in traditional dress was set on fire in New York.

The woman, whose blouse was set on fire, managed to extinguish the flames before she was seriously hurt.

An attacker allegedly set her shirt on fire while she was outside the Valentino boutique on Fifth Avenue soon after 9pm.

The suspect reportedly lit her top ablaze and walked away from the scene without a word.

New York Police Department are currently investigating if the attack was an Islamophobic hate crime, according to Daily News.

The incident comes soon after an Imam and his assistant were show dead outside a mosque in Queens last month.

And last week two Muslim women were attacked by a woman who told them to ‘get the f*ck out of America’ while attempting to pull of their hijabs in Brooklyn.
