The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps says it has arrested 11 persons in connection with illegal dealing in petroleum products in Ondo State.

The NSCDC Ondo State Commandant, Fasiu Adeyinka, told newsmen on Friday in Akure that the command had also impounded five trucks containing 153,000 litres of petrol.
Adeyinka said the suspects were arrested at various locations in the state between June 22 and July 14.

He said a driver and his assistant in a DAF truck marked ABJ 834 NS loaded with 40,000 litres of petrol were intercepted at Onipetesi, Ore on the Lagos-Benin Expressway.
He stated the suspects were unable to present their waybill at the point of arrest, which showed that the product might have been siphoned from vandalised pipeline.

The NSCDC boss said three others were also arrested in a Forte Oil branded DAF truck marked Abuja GWA 480 YM containing 36,000 litres of PMS at Owena on the Ilesha-Akure Expressway on July 4.

Adeyinka said two other suspects in a MACK truck marked KTU 426 XA containing 33,000 litres of PMS were also arrested at Ore in Odigbo Local Government Area for illegal diversion of product meant for one filling station in satellite town, Lagos.

He said some of the suspects had already been charged to court while others still under investigation would soon be charged to court.
The commandant advised petroleum dealers to always ensure that original copy of their way bill accompanied products being conveyed to their stations.

He said the NSCDC would continue to impound trucks conveying petroleum products without the original way bill.
