NUPENG warns marketers against fuel diversion

The Nigerian Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers has called on independent marketers to shun the diversion of petroleum products meant for Rivers and other states in the Port Harcourt Zone of the union.

Acting Zonal Chairman, Port Harcourt Zone of NUPENG, Mr. Charles Eleto, made this call on Saturday when the Independent Marketers’ Branch of the union met with him in the River State capital.

Eleto lamented that the constant cases of the diversion of fuel was most times responsible for the scarcity of the products in the state.

He identified Abia, Imo, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Bayelsa, Cross Rivers, Enugu and Delta as states under the Port Harcourt zone of NUPENG.

Eleto pledged to compliment the efforts of the Rivers State Ministry of Energy and the Department of Petroleum Resources in ensuring the availability of petroleum products in the zone at all times.

He said, “The Independent Marketers Branch of NUPENG are the ones working directly at the depots. Before any product is dispatch to anywhere; without them signing the waybill on behalf of the marketers, that product will not leave the depot to any destination.

“Any product that is allocated to Rivers State and other states of the Port Harcourt zone should not be diverted to other states. If it is meant for Rivers State, ensure it is not diverted because you want to make profit and make masses to suffer.

“As long as I am the chairman of NUPENG, I will never allow any form of scarcity. The filling stations too should not sell above government’s approved pump price,” Eleto added.
