The 53-year-old Portuguese replaces Dutchman Louis van Gaal whose two-year reign at Old Trafford ended on Monday when he was sacked two days after United won the FA Cup.
Upon his appointment, Mourinho was quoted as saying: “It is a club known and admired throughout the world. There is a mystique and a romance about it which no other club can match.”
