NLC chairman, directors listed among ghost workers in Kano

The Chairman of the Nigerian Labour Congress in Kano state, Comrade Aminu Ado Minjibir, directors and assistant directors were among the 7,629 ‘ghost workers’  uncovered by the state government recently.

The NCL chairman comrade Ado Minjibir, who revealed this  in Kano while addressing a press conference, said the on-going biometric capture exercise in the state was marred by irregularities.

Minjibir was reacting to the recent pronouncement credited to the state’s Head of Civil Service, Malam Muhammad Auwal Na’iya saying government has uncovered 7,629 ghost workers on its payroll.

Minjibir said: “There are so many workers including many executives of the NLC, directors of personnel managements of some local governments and assistant directors who were captured but listed among the ghost workers.”

He pointed out that government should take cognisanse of some workers that are currently undergoing trainings outside the state on the approval of government.

He noted that there were some pensioners who were not residing in the country after their service but are bonafide pensioners.

Minjibir, therefore, urged the state government to scrutinize the list of the workers classified as ghost with a view to exonerate the genuine among them.

He also advised that government should use whatever savings it generate through the exercise to settle the outstanding salaries and pension allowances.

He said: “Such funds should be use to settle the eight months salary arrears of teachers at Kano State Senior Secondary School Management Board and another eight months salary areers of health workers under Primary Health Care Management Board and the unpaid gratuities, pension and death benefits of pensioners.”

Comrade Minjibir also advised government to include NLC in the critical exercise such as the on-going bio-metric capture exercise.
