Vandalism: Electricity supply drops from 5, 000MW to 2, 800MW

The Power Sector has experienced another set back as electricity supply on the national grid has dropped from 5, 000 to 2, 800 megawatts due to vandalism in the last two weeks.

The Acting Chief Executive Officer of Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) Dr. Anthony Akah revealed this at the Headquarters of the Consumer Protection Council, CPC in Abuja where they signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).

The CEO also stated that the Commission would soon compel electricity distribution companies to publish their meter deployment schedules so as to ensure adherence to the meter roll out plan contained in the performance agreement signed with government by the utility firms.

In a statement from the Head, Public Affairs Department, Dr. Usman Abba Arabi Akah stated: “Such publication will make unmetered customers to be aware of the estimated period they have to wait before they can be metered.”
