Pastor impregnates member’s wife, threatens to kill husband

I prefer pastor to my hubby, says wife

It sounds stranger than fiction. It is like a script from the Nigerian home video otherwise called Nollwood. A pastor sleeps with a member’s wife. The husband confronts the acclaimed man of God, rather than deny it, the man says he is not only sleeping with the woman, but enjoys her so much that he really wants to take her away from her husband. But the woman also says she prefers the pastor to her husband. Strange? No. That is the story of Mr. Olusola Onifade and his wife, Simbiatu.

An Ile-Ife Customary Court yesterday dissolved the couple’s 10-year-old marriage on the grounds that a senior pastor of their church (name withheld) impregnated the wife. Onifade, who is a member of the church, dragged his wife before the court on the grounds of infidelity.

He alleged that the pastor had been having incessant sexual intercourse with his wife and prayed the court to separate with immediate effect. The man told the court that the cleric had been sleeping with his wife day and night and that when he confronted him, the said pastor threatened to kill him if he refused to leave the wife for him. In his testimony before the court, the complaint said: “God first of all exposed their secret relationship to me in a dream where I saw the pastor struggling with me over a particular thing.

When I woke up, I asked my wife, she denied having any affair with the pastor. “But immediately I went to my pastor, he confessed that truly he is having an affair with my wife and that he cannot leave her because she is good in bed and that he has impregnated her and ready to marry her.

“He appealed to me to leave her for him, for he cannot do without her and for the safety of my life and that of my two children, I should steer clear voluntarily.” In her own account, Simbiatu prayed the court to dissolve her marriage. She said: “I will be happy if the marriage is dissolved because I prefer pastor to my husband.”

One of the witnesses, Mr. Azeez Raheem, told the court that the defendant was his younger sister. Raheem confirmed that his sister was having an affair with the pastor. After listening to all the arguments, the President of the court, Chief Bunmi Adegoke, ordered the dissolution of the marriage for the safety of the husband. The court awarded the custody of the two children to the plaintiff for proper care.
