Chinese scientists isolate two Zika virus strains from patients

Chinese scientists have isolated two Zika virus strains, which would assist research into a possible vaccination and the transmission pattern of the virus.

Scientists at the Academy of Military Medical Sciences and Guangzhou People’s Hospital, said on Thursday during a press briefing in Beijing that the two strains were isolated from blood and urine samples from two patients.

They said the isolation could help scientists study the transmission pattern of the virus, while provide a foundation for the invention of re-agent and vaccine.

They said the urine test was the first successful isolation from a sample such as that.
