Benue South Rerun election: Police deploys 5,000 officers

Ahead of Saturday’s zone C, Senatorial re-run election in Benue State, the State Police Command said it had deployed about 5,000 of its men to the area to forestall security breakdown.

This was disclosed by the State Commissioner of Police, Paul Yakadi, yesterday in Makurdi, the state capital.

Yakadi said other sister security agencies would complement the efforts of the Police on election day.

The Saturday’s re-run election is between the former senate President, David Mark of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and Daniel Onjeh of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Yakadi assured of adequate security, stressing that the command had enough manpower to oversee the security of the state before during and after the polls.

Yakadi said, “I can assure everyone especially politicians and the electorates from the Benue south zone that we have put in place adequate security measures to ensure the peaceful conduct of Saturday’s rerun election.

“We have enough personnel on ground; about 5,000 of them have been deployed and we will be complemented by other sister security agencies who will be supporting us to ensure a hitch free election in the zone.

“We will all ensure the safety of everyone, so all eligible voters are advised to come out on Saturday to cast their votes without fear of harassment, molestation or intimidation.”

Yakadi further warned politicians and stakeholders in the area against fomenting trouble during and after the poll, adding that anyone caught would be arrested and prosecuted.
