Soldiers, police close down Kogi assembly over leadership crisis

The leadership crisis rocking the Kogi Assembly has taken another dimension as detachment of armed security personnel Thursday ejected staff and locked up the assembly complex.

The security personnel made of up of the military, mobile and conventional policemen are said to be acting on instruction from above.

When contacted, the Kogi Police Commissioner, Besan Gwana said he directed his men to secure the assembly complex following intelligence reports that some hoodlums were planning to wreck havoc in the place.

“We got information that some people are coming there to vandalise things at the assembly. That was why we sent our men there to secure the place. It is for security reason”, he said.

Our corespondent reports that the assembly had been embroiled in leadership crisis following the Tuesday’s purported impeachment of the assembly Speaker, Momoh Jimoh Lawal by five out of the present 20-member assembly.
