Ekwunife beats, Ikeazor, Picks APC Ticket For Anambra Central

Fortunes have smiled again on sacked Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial Distirict, Iyom Uche Ekwunife, as her chances of returning to the Red Chambers, this time on the ticket of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), brightened up on Saturday, after picking the ticket to run for the office once again.

Ekwunife, a two-time former member of the House of Representatives, had moved up to the Senate on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), after defeating then incumbent, Senator Chris Ngige and former National Chairman of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Victor Umeh.

But whilst Ngige was sucked into the APC apparatchik, through which he emerged Minister, Umeh, went to court to challenge the outcome of the election and succeeded in getting the Court of Appeal to nullify it on the ground that Ekwunife did not properly emerge the PDP candidate, due to faulty primaries and went ahead to order that a new election be conducted in 90 days.

Last Frideay, the sacked Senator, defected to the APC, when it became obvious that the PDP, did not intend to conduct primaries to produce a candidate for the fresh election, in what appeared a suave political move to save her career.

Apart from the intensive rapprochement deft shuttle, which earned her the respect of party elders and faithful, Ekwunife, carried the day due to the fact of her political clout and her being a ranking lawmaker amongst those eyeing the position.
