A 24-year-old photographer has fallen to his death after attempting to take pictures from the roof of the Four Seasons Hotel in New York City.

The man identified as Connor Cummings, managed to gain access to the rooftop and climbed over scaffolding on top of the 52-storey Manhattan hotel then slipped and fell down nine storeys to his death.

Cummings who was in the company of his 18-year-old friend, Dimitri Olivares, were on Wednesday attempting to take pictures of the New York skyline around 11.15pm.

Cummings reportedly slipped when he tried to climb through a hatch and fell down nine storeys, landing grotesquely on a 43rd-floor walkway dying instantly.

Olivares, who witnessed the accident, panicked, climbed back down and fled the building.

He was already in a taxi when he had a change of heart and returned to the hotel where he told his mother and security what had happened.

Olivares was then questioned by officers from the New York Police Department and later released without charge.
