Court remands Bishop, another for defrauding investors

A Federal High Court sitting in Jos, Plateau State on Monday remanded in prison the Chairman and Secretary of the Covenant Fadama Cooperative Society, Bishop Jonas Katung and Okewale Dayo respectively, over allegations of fraud.
Bishop Katung and Dayo, who have been standing trial for offences bordering on advanced fee fraud, were arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission before Justice Ambrose Alagoa at the Federal High Court in Jos.
Katung and others were arraigned by the operatives of the EFCC on a 24 count charge for defrauding about 800 depositors of huge sums of money running into hundreds of millions of naira sometimes in 2012 through the cooperatives with the intent of giving them mouth-watering interests at different points that failed.
When the case came up, the accused persons pleaded not guilty to all the 24 count charges leveled against them by the EFCC and the court has fixed December 9 for hearing of the bail application by the counsel to the defendants.
The court ordered the accused persons to remain in prison custody.
