David Adeleke, one of Nigeria’s most prominent music stars better known as Davido, has become one of the youngest Nigerians to buy a private jet.
In a message written along with the post through which he made the announcement on Instagram yesterday, the 25-year-old music superstar claimed to be the youngest Nigerian to own a private jet.
“Air OBO soon land. Youngest Nigga with a jet. My baby lands in two weeks,” the father of two wrote excitedly on the social media platform. The “Fia” singer and boss of DMW, further shared photos of himself in a private jet.
And when a follower commented that the self-styled Omo Baba Olowo was about to buy a private jet, Davido replied thus: “Bought already… it’s not soup. it’s Hardwork and Ambition!”
With his latest stunt, Davido has raised the bar even higher, coming a week after he bought a brand new luxury Porsche car worth N45million for the surprise 25th birthday of his girlfriend, Chioma Avril Rowland, last week.
However, details of the model and cost of the aircraft are still sketchy as at press time although the singer further shared documents to back up the claim via Instagram story.
Sources in the aviation industry put the cost of a private jet at between $17 million and $32 million in the least, a figure that would run into billion when converted to Naira.
Apart from being born into wealth and also being one of the top music stars in Africa, the last 12 months have been particularly good for the Osun State-born act, safe for the scandal surrounding the death of his friend, Tagbo Umeike which was the only point of headache for him. With songs like “If,” “Fall” and “Fia” dropping last year, it has been a rollercoaster year for the music star, who was able to outshine his rival-turned-friend, Wizkid, in the process.
Upon its release in February 2017, “If” became the soundtrack at every event, amassing over 4 million streams on Spotify and a mind-boggling 62.8 million Youtube views as at April 2018. The single dominated conversations, not just across social media but even on the streets with instant catchphrases/prayer points like ’30 billion for the account’. So huge was the buzz that R&B legend, R.Kelly jumped on the song, helping Davido achieve the feat Wizkid recorded years earlier as Drake jumped on Wizkid’s “Ojuelegba” along with British rapper, Skepta.
On the back of the song, Davido bagged several awards like Best Worldwide Act and Best African Act (MTV EMA), Artist of the Year and Song of the Year for AFRIMMA Awards held in Dallas, Texas and Afropop Male Act of the Year Nigerian Entertainment Awards, Best African Act 2017 at MOBO Awards, also becoming the first African artist to perform during the event.
