Winter Olympics: Nigeria bobsled team places 20th

One of the most absorbing and highly-anticipated tales of the PyeongChang Winter Games finally came to the fore on Tuesday as the Nigeria women’s bobsled team took to the track in heats one and two, to become Africa’s first Olympic bobsledders.

In the first heat, which they started as second contestant at the Olympic Sliding Centre, Seun Adigun piloted with Akuoma Omeoga and they returned the time of 52.21 seconds. It was 1.69 seconds slower than that of Maryama Elena Mayers Taylor and Lauren Gibbs of the USA who won with the time of 50.52 seconds.

About an hour later, Adigun and Omeoga were back in action for the second heat where they were the first contestants but it was the same outcome as they placed 20th with a time of 52.55 seconds which was 1.83 seconds slower than the 50.72 timing of Maryama Jamanka and Lisa Buckwitz of Germany who won the race.

Both ladies returned un-impressive times in training on Monday and had hoped to do well in the main event but they finished last.
They have two more events on Wednesday.
