Former England captain Wayne Rooney has been charged with drink driving, Cheshire Police said.
Rooney, England’s all-time goal scorer, was stopped by police near his home in Cheshire yesterday following a night out.
A source told Metro.co.uk that he was at Bubble Room bar in Alderley Edge before his arrest and was spotted dancing on the tables and singing a rendition of Wonderwall with Burnley player Phil Bardsley’s brother.
According to spokesman for Cheshire police, ‘The man was arrested shortly after 2.00am today, Friday 1 September, eafter officers stopped a black VW Beetle on Altrincham Road, Wilmslow.
‘Wayne Rooney, aged 31, of Collar House Drive, Prestbury, has since been charged with driving whilst over the prescribed limit.
‘Rooney has been released on bail and is due to appear at Stockport Magistrates’ Court on 18/9/2017.’
Just last week, the 31-year-old announced he would be retiring from international football after 53 goals for his country in 119 appearances.
He re-joined his former club Everton in the summer, and scored in both his first two Premier League games after leaving Manchester United.
