Humble Beginnings: Timi Dakolo posts photo of his former house in Port Harcourt

Talented musician, Timi Dakolo, today cuts the image of a man who has it all; a beautiful and supportive wife, wonderful children along with the pleasant evidence of fame and fortune. But some years back, the man blessed with a voice that easily rouses thousands, could only imagine a life like this. In fact, 15 years ago, he was not a celebrity and didn’t know where the next meal for him, and his family members, would come from. He was nothing beyond a regular street boy in the Diobu, Mile 3 part of Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State.

While in Port Harcourt for an event over the course of last weekend, the “Wish Me Well” singer visited the house he used to live in a decade and half ago and the image he shared on Instagram is arguably more powerful than the picture he captures in his grass-to-grace themed song, “Let It Shine”.

“It wasn’t always like this… once upon a time it was the oversize shoe… so you would grow into it… the “no food this evening…” the mosquito war at night… the “go home you haven’t paid school fees…” the “just manage food go dey when you come back from school…” the constant dodging of the landlord.. the “no Christmas dress this year…” the hustle to meet up waec fee before deadline… the sanitation fee… the “no worry my pikin e go better…,” he wrote as part of a lengthy post focusing on his past.

While many are not ready to even admit they ever suffered before, the Baysela State-born star has always cast a glance back to his past, often taking his fans and followers with him.
