Nigeria 13th on World Peace Index

Nigeria has been ranked as the 13th least stable country in the world on the Fragile States Index, (FSI).

The report, which was released on Monday by the Washington DC-based think-tank, Fund for Peace (FFP)‎, said South Sudan was the world’s most unstable country, followed by Somalia and Central African Republic.

Four other African countries, Sudan, Democratic Republic of Congo, Chad and Guinea occupy the rear positions in the world peace index.

Nigeria shares the 13th position with another African country, Zimbabwe while Ethiopia is in the 14th position.

A total of 178 countries were ranked in this year’s peace index, and they were ranked according to their vulnerability to threats from social, political, economic and demographic pressures.

Interestingly, in 2005, Nigeria was ranked 54th. Last year, Nigeria was also in the 13th position.

Nigeria’s total score this year was 101.6‎. Each country was assessed in 12-point areas.

‎ Nigerians have been reacting since the report was released, blaming it on armed robbery, kidnapping, herdsmen attack, ethnic militia as well as threat to peace by politicians, as major sources to insecurity and instability in the country.
