2019 general elections would be better than 2015 – INEC

Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu‎ has assured that the 2019 general elections would be better than that of 2015.

Prof. Yakubu, who spoke on Wednesday when he received the new United States Ambassador to Nigeria, Stuart Symington at INEC headquarters, said the commission had already commenced planning for the forthcoming elections.

“2015 was a defining moment for Nigeria elections, but we want to assure you that the commission is conscious of its responsibility and we are committed to making future elections even better.

“It is for that reason we are have taken some steps so far in ensuring that the 2019 general elections are infinite better than 2015 general elections,” Yakubu said.

He told his visitor that the commission had already fixed the dates for the election and has commenced Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise in 774 local government areas.

The INEC Chairman assured that the commission would deepen the use of technology in the conduct of elections, adding that the voter register has been cleaned up.
