Punch reporter expelled from Aso Rock

The Presidency has expelled the correspondent of The Punch, Olalekan Adetayo, from the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The action was taken by Bashir Abubakar, the Chief Security Officer to President Muhammadu Buhari, on Monday.
The Punch had over the weekend published two materials that were regarded as the offending articles that could have led to Adetayo’s expulsion.
One was a story on the President’s ill-health, with the other being a column written by Adetayo.
Both were published on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the President, Femi Adesina, has said he was not consulted before the expulsion of the correspondent of The Punch, Olalekan Adetayo, from the Presidential Villa.
Adetayo was on Monday expelled by President Muhammadu Buhari’s Chief Security Officer, Bashir Abubakar, from the Presidential Villa.
Speaking with online news portal, The Eagle Online on the telephone, Adesina said the action of Abubakar, an operative of the Department of State Services, was not discussed with him.
He said: “I was not consulted before it happened.
“I was not informed.”
Asked what will happen next, Adesina said: “We will look into this.
“But I want to assure you that the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari will continue to uphold the freedom of the press and we will settle this amicably.”
