Monarch kidnapped in Akure

A traditional ruler, Oba Joel Daodu was at the weekend abducted by suspected kidnappers along Owo/Ikare road in Ondo North senatorial district of Ondo State.
Oba Daodu, the Olu of Itaoniyan in Akure South Local Government Area of the state was on his way from Oba-Akoko in Akoko Southwest Local Government Area of the state when he ran into the hands of the suspected kidnappers.
The Owo/Ikare and Akure/Owo routes have been notorious for the kidnapping and armed robbery incidences in the recent past. The former Regent of Akungba, Princess Oluwatoyin Omosowon, Chief Olu Falae and many others have been kidnapped along the route.
There was also report of armed robbery incident along the Owo/Ikare road despite the heavy presence of security agencies along the route at the weekend.
A family source who confirmed the abduction of Oba Daodu said the monarch went to Oba-Akoko to attend a social function on Saturday when the incident happened.
According to him, Oba Daodu was driving alone in his car when he ran into the ambush of the suspected kidnappers and was taken into captivity.
He said nobody could say exactly how the incident happened because the monarch was alone in the car when the incident happened.
However, he said the family suspected foul play when he did not return to Akure, the state capital where he lives.
