Court sentences 7 to life imprisonment for Falae’s kidnap

Two years after Chief Olu Falae, a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) was kidnapped in his farm in Ilado in Akure North Local Government area of Ondo State; seven of the suspects arrested are to spend the rest of their lives in prison custody.

The suspects including Abubakar Auta, Bello Jannu, Umaru Ibarahim, Masahudu Muhammed and Idris Lawal, Abdulkadir Umar and Babawuro Kato were found guilty by Justice Williams Rotimi Olamide of four count-charges bordering on conspiracy and kidnapping.

Justice Olamide, who passed the verdict, found the convicts, who were mainly Fulani herdsmen, guilty of conspiracy and kidnapping contrary to the laws of the state.

It will be recalled that Chief Falae was abducted by a gang kidnappers on Monday, September 21, 2015, at his farm in Ilado, Akure North Local Government Area of the state

The convicts were arraigned on five count charge bordering on counselling with one another for the purpose of kidnapping and abducting, aiding and abetting, kidnapping, conspiracy and armed robbery.

The charges slammed on the convicts by the Director of Public Prosecution Mrs Sola Adeyemi-Tuki read: “That you, Abubakar Auta, Bello Jannu, Umaru Ibarahim, Masahudu Muhammed, Idris Lawal and Abdulkadir Umar and Babawuro Kato others now at large, on or about Monday 21st September, 2015 at Kajola/Eyinala Community in Akure Judicial Division did give information for the purpose of kidnapping and abducting Chief Samuel Oluyemi Falae.”
