Pro-Ndume protest rocks National Assembly

Protesters in their hundreds have stormed the National Assembly over last week’s suspension of the representative of Southern Borno Senatorial District, Senator Ali Ndume.

The protesters demanded the reversal of the suspension, describing the President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, as a “curse to democracy”.

The protesters, who described themselves as “Borno youths”, equally had banners with inscriptions that included: Stop impunity in National Assembly and Show love to Southern Borno people.

Ndume was suspended last week for moving a motion calling for the investigation of the allegations against Saraki and Senator Dino Melaye for the purchase of a Jeep without paying Customs duties and certificate forgery.
The Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions found both Saraki and Melaye not guilty and recommended the suspension of Ndume for alleged failure to investigate the allegations before bringing them up.
