Hotelier sets self ablaze in Delta

The Police in Delta State on Monday confirmed the death of a hotelier who reportedly set himself ablaze in one of the apartments in his family compound in Abraka, Ethiope East Local Government Area of the state.

The state’s police spokesman, DSP Andrew Aniamaka confirmed the incident when contacted on phone late Monday evening, saying that investigation into the death had already begun.

The hotelier identified as Jonathan Omovokukor reportedly committed suicide.

The incident occurred in the Delta State University community of Abraka.

It was gathered Jonathan suffered severe burns after he set himself ablaze and later died before help could come.

A source added that property worth thousands of naira was destroyed in the resulting inferno.

While confirming the incident, the police spokesman said there was report that the deceased had history of mental disorder as a result he committed suicide by setting himself ablaze and later died of fire injuries.

Aniamaka said the corpse had been moved to the mortuary pending further investigation.
