A man, identified simply as Umar, and his son, Abubakar, have lost their lives while digging a well at Gidan-Fulani village in Wamakko Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The Director of the state Fire Service, Alhaji Ibrahim Dingyadi, who confirmed it, said the incident occurred recently.
It was learnt that the man and his son met their death while digging a well meant to be converted to a borehole. A witness, who craved anonymity, said the well had reached about nine feet when it suddenly collapsed. According to him, Abubakar was working inside the well when it collapsed. “Umar decided to go inside the well to rescue his son but he also died inside the well,” the witness added.
The state Secretary of Tipper Owners and Drivers’ Association, Alhaji Abu Maitifa, told our correspondent that the victims’ bodies were later retrieved from the well by the personnel of the state Fire Service.
