Kano State government through the State Agency for the Control of AIDS (SACA) is sponsoring medical treatment of about 17,379 women living with HIV in the state in order to make their lives meaningful to the society.
The Director General of SACA in the state, Dr. Usman Bashir stated this on Wednesday in Kano during this year’s International Women’s Da.
Dr. Bashir also said 1, 443 pregnant women living with HIV were prevented from transmitting the virus to their children.
He said the agency had recently conducted a medical outreach programme in 12 local government areas of the state where 14,042 women were tested on HIV, diabetes and hypertension and drugs were given to them free of charge.
Dr Bashir noted that United Nations has set aside March 8 every year to mark International Women’s Day.
The director general commended Ganduje-led administration for providing more health facilities to hospitals across the state.
He pointed out that the state government had recently purchased HIV testing kits and drugs (ARV) worth N24m which were distributed to counselling centres across the state.
