Politicians milked Nigeria dry in 2016 – Naaba

Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Alhaji Ghali Umar Naaba, has decried the politics of winners take all among elected officials in the country, which he said will continue to be the bane of the growth of the nation’s democracy.

In the same vein, Naaba frowned on the failure of political leaders to make any serious impact on the lives of Nigerians, 16 years after the introduction of party politics.

He said: “The last 16 years rather produced corrupt leaders and series of irregularities from among these sorts of leaders who turned the nation’s treasury to their personal accounts.”

Naaba, who was speaking while inaugurating a new political association, “Ina Mafita A Siyasance,” in Kano at the weekend, said he was worried that many politicians, including himself were dumped after been used by elected officials.

He said as a leader, he received series of complaints from politicians devoid of party affiliations of how they were completely forgotten by those they helped to get to office.

“I see a great danger in this attitude, because people are tired of this syndrome of winners take all and if things are not put right the revolt that would come from that may not be easy.”
