Sacked staff of Max Airline sue, demand entitlements from company

Some staff of an indigenous airline, Max Air, have sued the company asking for payment of their entitlements.

Max Air reportedly sacked one of its pilots, Auwal Idris, and three other engineers, Anthony Depreye, Hamisu Garga and Usman on February 7 without paying them full benefits being pioneer staff of the company.

They alleged that the company sacked them unilaterally without informing them of their offenses or reasons for the sack.

Their counsel, M. Duru, approached the National Industrial Court in Kano demanding that his clients be paid their pension contributions and three months salaries in lieu of notice as required by their terms of engagement and any other entitlements due to them.

The case which was to be heard on Wednesday could not be mentioned following the filing of two motions by the defence counsel, M. Garba.

In a motion he filed on December 2, Mr. Garba asked for time to enable him file a memorandum of appearance and statements of defence to forward the case to arbitration.

The judge, Lawan Mani, said he has gone through the case file and the applications and is satisfied to grant the request of the defence counsel for more time.

The judge then adjourned the case to January 30 for hearing of the motions.
