Don’t attempt to rig Rivers re-run poll, Wike warns Ganduje

Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, yesterday warned his Kano State counterpart, Umar Abdulahi Ganduje, to shield any clandestine plan of circumventing the smooth process for the re-run election in Rivers State in favour of his All Progressives Congress (APC).

Governor Wike said that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was waiting patiently to see the magic that the ruling party at the centre will do regarding the scheduled National Assembly and State Assembly elections in the state.

Governor Ganduje had on Friday boasted that the APC will win the Rivers National Assembly (Senate and House of Representatives) and State House of Assembly elections scheduled to hold next week.

Speaking to State House Correspondents after meeting with President Mohammadu Buhari in the Villa, Ganduje who is the Chairman, APC campaign committee for Rivers re-run polls, vowed that the party will repeat the feat it achieved during the just concluded Ondo State governorship election where Rotimi Akeredolu emerged as winner.

He said that the APC was prepared and armed with new strategies to clinch all the parliamentary slots up for grabs in an atmosphere of free and fair election.

“We are prepared; we just came out of the Ondo elections. We have fresh ideas even though both environments are different, but we have our own strategies. “Like in Ondo State we must ensure that we have a free and fair election.

“You know in that part of the country having a free and fair election is not normal and we have to make it normal this time. “We must ensure that there is security so that people will come out and vote.

That’s our main preoccupation at the moment. “We are making wider consultations with stakeholders and we believe we will succeed,” the governor said. But reacting to Ganduje’s remarks in a telephone interview, governor Wike, picked holes in the Kano State governor’s statement, describing it as unfortunate.
