A couple kept their daughter in a plastic box and used sharp tools to sexually abuse and torture her for 15 years.
The Australian parents were jailed after being found guilty of the abuse, which took place from when the girl was aged five to 19.
The 59-year-father used various implements to abuse his daughter, who was left tied up in a shed or in a plastic box for up to three days at a time at their rural home in New South Wales.
He had also held her head under water in a stream, wrapped her in barbed wire, forced her to eat hot chillies and threatened her with a chainsaw.
Her mother taught her how to sexually arouse her father when she was just eight.
The crimes were only uncovered when the victim, now aged 24, complained about her parents in 2011 when she was a patient at a psychiatric hospital.
Her father was sentenced to 48 years in prison at a District Court in Sydney after he was convicted of 73 offences in June. He will be eligible for parole after serving 36 years.
The mother, 51, was sentenced to 16 years in prison and must serve at least 11 years after being found guilty of 13 offences.
Judge Sarah Huggett said the crimes were ‘atrocious in the extreme’ and also described the father as ‘selfish, depraved and sadistic’.
The couple, who cannot be named for legal reasons, had denied all charges.
