4 Drinks to Avoid Before Exercising

Staying fit is important to our general well being. If you are looking to maximize your performance in the gym, you need to stay away from these fitness-killers.

These are the four worst drinks to take before exercising:

  1. Drinks that contain milk: If you are a milk buff and also love your dairy products, you need save them for after your work out. They contain a lot of protein, carbs and fat, which take a while to digest. They can also make you gassy. Farting in the gym is almost as bad as dropping the bar from the top of a dead lift.
  2. Fruit Juices: Your fruit drink might be okay if it’s not loaded with sugar. Most fruit-flavored drinks are loaded with high-fructose corn syrup. A good alternative is water with fresh fruit added. If it’s important to drink juice that is not naturally squeezed, wait till after your workout.
  1. Soda: Soda can cause abdominal pain, gas, bloating and dehydration because they contain high amounts of sodium. So if you’ve been chugging a bottle of Coke before you hit the weights and you don’t know you’re doing something wrong, it’s time to re-evaluate your fitness outlook.
  1. Alcohol: Drinking Alcohol before your exercise dehydrates and messes up your balance. It also impairs your decision making. If we put all these together, you’re more likely to overstretch yourself, get hurt, and have a harder time recovering. You’ll also smell like beer in the gym.
