Police smash baby factory in Port Harcourt

Operatives of the Anti-Cultism Unit of the Rivers State Police Command, acting on intelligence, on Tuesday smashed a baby making factory at Igbo Etche, a suburb of Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

Arrested at a house designated as a clinic were four pregnant teenage girls and one Reginald Akagbuto.

The four pregnant girls arrested at the illegal clinic were identified as Oluchi Okorie, Chidinma Joseph, Ngozi Ekere and Miracle Michael.

When interviewed, they confessed to have agreed with the proprietor of the illegal factory, Akagbuto, to sell the babies for N150,000 and N100,000 depending on the sexes of the children. While the male child is for N150,000, the female is for N100,000. They attributed their desire to sell the babies to lack of care and denial from their purported fathers.

The suspects are still being interrogated at the Anti-Cultism Unit and will be arraigned in court as soon as investigation is completed.

The Rivers State Police Command Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Omoni Nnamdi, confirmed the arrest.

“The state Commissioner of Police, Francis M. Odesanya, once again warned criminal elements in the state to leave the state or face arrest. He urged the people to have confidence in his ability to reduce crime and called for useful information that will lead to he arrest of criminals. Crime fighting is not a one-man business. He also assured the people that any information given will be judiciously utilized,” he added.
