3 Nigerians win CNN Multichoice African journalists awards

Three Nigerians – Yemisi Akinbobola, Ogechi Ekeanyanwu, and Chika Oduah – emerged winners in different categories at the 2016 CNN Multichoice African Journalists Award held at the Gallagher Convention Centre, Johannesburg, South Africa, yesterday night.

Akinbobola and Ekeanyanwu won in the Sports reporting category for their story on trafficking of young Nigerian footballers to Europe.

Oduah won in the Technology and Innovation Reporting category for her story titled ‘The App that saved 1000 children.’

The overall prize was won by Asher Ahmed Mwilu and Rashid Idi from Kenya for their story titled ‘Terror Crossing” – an in-depth investigative TV documentary about security at the Kenya-Somali border.

Among dignitaries at the event were cabinet ministers from South Africa, Namibia, Sierra Leone as well as members of the diplomatic corps.

This year’s event which is the 21st was hosted by CNN presenter Zain Asher and Supersports presenter Robert Marawa.
