The Federal Government has commenced moves to avert the proposed strike by workers in the oil sector.
The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria had in a statement on Monday threatened to embark on strike beginning from 12:01am on Thursday.
The union gave several grounds for the strike, top of which is the breach of agreement reached with the Federal Government on various issues.
However, on Wednesday, the Federal Government summoned the leadership of PENGASSAN and the Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria to a meeting.
The Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Nwabueze Ngige, and the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, are to meet with the union leaders on Thursday.
The meeting, a statement said, is “to put a lasting solution to the lingering problems in the oil and gas sector”.
The meeting is expected to hold at the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, Minister’s Board Room, 11th Floor, NNPC Towers, Abuja.
It is scheduled to commenced at 10am.
