Fire destroys 14 offices in Kaduna

The Director, Kaduna State Fire Service, Paul Aboi, on Monday said 14 offices were burnt at the state secretariat.

The director made this known while speaking with newsmen in Kaduna that the fire affected the Ministry of Justice, burning books, computers and furniture.
Aboi told newsmen that the building was empty when the fire started at 2am from the central offices.

He said: “Fire men moved swiftly when the distress call was made by police officers on the incident.”

He said fire officials spent some hours with 16,000 litres of water to battle the inferno from spreading to other offices.
The director said the cause of the fire was suspected to be an electrical upsurge.

“We thank God no life was lost and no injuries were sustained,” he said.
Aboi called on members of staff to ensure that electrical appliances were switched off before leaving their office premises.

Emmanuel Barau, the Public Relations Officer of the ministry, said the offices included the Permanent Secretary’s office, Chief Accountant’s office, and those of other top directors.
