Crashed Egyptair’s second black box found – Investigators

Investigators have found the flight data recorder of crashed Egyptair flight MS804, a report said on Friday.

Earlier, the Egyptian Civil Aviation Ministry said it has started unloading the memory unit of the cockpit voice recorder of the EgyptAir passenger jet that crashed last month, official sources.

The memory unit, which contains the conversations between the pilot and co-pilot inside the cockpit during the last 30 minutes before the plane crashed, will be unloaded and analysed by a special unit at the Civil Aviation Ministry.
Sources at the Egypt-led investigative committee said the results will not be announced to the media before the investigative authorities, including the prosecution, are informed.

The recorder, one of two black boxes on Egyptair’s ill-fated flight MS804, had been recovered on Thursday in several stages.

It was first located by a specialised undersea search ship operated by the Mauritius-based company, Deep Sea Search.
The ship managed to recover the memory unit, which is the most important part of the recorder.

EgyptAir flight MS804 was on route from Paris, France to Cairo in Egypt on May 19 when it crashed into the Mediterranean with 66 people on board.
Last month, Egyptian Civil Aviation Minister, Sherif Fathy, said terrorist action appeared a more likely cause than a mechanical failure.
