Nigerian Colonel Breaks 38-yr Record, Emerges Best Graduand At US War College

Charles Nengite, a colonel in the Nigerian Army over the weekend bested 380 other postgraduate students to the top position at the U.S. War College (USAWC), Carlisle, Pennsylvania breaking a 38-year record in the process.

It was the best performance by a foreigner in that time period. The information was posted on the college’s website on Monday.

The Commandant of the college, Maj.-Gen. William Rapp, described Mr. Nengite’s performance in a letter as “arguably one of the best in the international fellows programmes at the USAWC”.

Charles Nengite_2Information on the website indicates that Col. Nengite bagged six awards for outstanding performance in different courses.

Amongst his outstanding achievements, were; A Distinguished Graduate award reserved for the top five fellows in his class of 381, the Commandant’s award for distinction in research, the USAWC recognition award for innovation in SHARP – Sexual Harassment and Response Programme and articulated a seminal paper – “I am your friend campaign’’ – strategy under the SHARP and also the 2nd best speaker award in the speaking competition in the 2016 class made up of 302 Americans and 79 other nationals in 73 other countries.

At the ceremony honoring the graduands, Chief of Staff of the U.S. Army, Gen. Mark Milley stated that people from the college usually went on to hold strategic leadership positions.

It has been gathered that even current President Buhari was an alumnus of the USA war college.
