Prison inmate escapes from court premises in Benin

An awaiting-trial inmate at Oko Medium Prison escaped from the premises of State High Court where he was to be tried in Benin on Wednesday morning.
A prison official told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), in Benin on Wednesday under the condition of anonymity, that warders had gone after the inmate.
Spokesman for the Edo command of the Nigerian Prison Services (NPS), Mr Aminu Suleiman said he was not in a position to speak on the issue. Suleiman told NAN that the state Comptroller of Prisons, Mr Effiom Etowa, was on official assignment outside the state.
