Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), have in the week end arrested the Chief of Staff to Adamawa State governor, Abdurrahman Abba.
Sources told our Correspondent that the arrest of Abba was in connection with a scam involving billions of naira in public funds when he served as Commissioner and Chief of Staff under former governor, Murtala Nyako.
A block of shops allegedly belonging to the governor’s top aide were sealed off by the EFCC some days before the arrest.
Abba had been linked to N2.8 billion naira allegedly siphoned from the state government through a contract for renovation of Yola International Hotel.
A close associate of the Chief of Staff told our correspondent that Abba was arrested over a property he bought from former Personal Assistant to Governor Nyako, Jafaru Maliki. The property is built on a land carved from the campus of the State Polytechnic Yola and allocated to individuals.
The EFCC could not be reached for confirmation but a source close to the Commission confirmed the arrest.
“Yes, he is being interrogated over some issues, but you know you cannot get details from me as I am not authorized to talk press’, the official stated.
