Six kidnappers Arrested in Delta State

Six people suspected to be members of a kidnap gang have been arrested in the Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.

It was learnt that the hoodlums numbering 12 attacked their victim and his family members at their residence in Owoluba Road in Effurn and dispossessed them of over N160,000 and thereafter kidnapped the owner of the house and his brother and whisked them away to an unknown destination.

It was gathered that the suspects inflicted injuries on the family members of their victims, while one of the victims was released to go and raise the ransom of N1m.

The state command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Celestina Kalu, confirmed the arrest of the six suspects in connection with the kidnap.

Kalu said based on the report of one of the victims, the police stormed the hideout of the hoodlums. She added that the hoodlums, on sighting the police officers, abandoned their victim and took to their heels.

She said the police later received information that the suspects were in their other hideout after which detectives swung into action and arrested the six suspects, while others escaped.

She said investigation was on, while efforts were in top gear to arrest the fleeing suspects, adding that the victim had re-united with members of his family.

Also, operatives of the Asaba community vigilance outfit have arrested a 29 year-old-man Ogochukwu Emeka, while attempting to rob a woman (name withheld) around St. Brigid Girls Grammar School area, Asaba.

It was gathered that the suspect monitored the victim who operated a provision store within Asaba and when she closed shop, and headed for home, the suspect allegedly made an attempt to break into the store.

But nemesis caught up with him when members of the Asaba vigilance outfit on patrol swooped on him.

The suspect was then taken to ‘A’ Division Police Station in the town.

Confirming the arrest of the suspect, the chairman of the vigilance outfit, Mr. Nnamdi Chukwuedo, said, “My men arrested the suspect who confessed to the crime and was taken to the police station where he is presently helping the police.”
