Dabiri-Erewa urges Nigerian Diasporans to help bolster stronger US, Nigeria economic ties

The three million-strong Nigeria-American diaspora in the US has been urged to help kickstart strong economic ties between the two countries.

Speaking at a  town hall meeting in New York with a gathering of Nigerians in diaspora, business and religious leaders, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Diaspora and Foreign Relations, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, informed the crowd of the proposed partnership with the National Assembly on a new policy to cater for the needs and inclusiveness of Nigerians in the Diaspora.

Dabiri-Erewa promised Nigerians that the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari will kick-start economic growth and modernize Nigeria by building the much-needed infrastructure and removing bureaucratic hurdles to business.

Her message has stirred hope among large numbers of the Nigeria-Americans, students, friends of Nigeria and young professionals, many of whom watched from afar with frustration as Nigeria’s economy slowed and corruption scandals dominated the headlines in foreign media.

La Guardia Plaza Hotel, venue of the event, thundered with applause as hundreds rose to their feet and celebrated her speech.

Dabiri-Erewa also used the occasion to challenge Nigerians in America to invest in Nigeria, advising them to set up a committee to help in building the bridge to success.
